Research Interest
The role of nuclear receptors in neurodegenerative diseases evokes interest in the development of potent ligands as tool compounds to study nuclear receptor activity. In this regard, nuclear receptor related 1 (Nurr1) is a target of emerging interest. Besides its activities as monomer and homodimer, Nurr1 can also be active as heterodimer with retinoid X receptors (RXR). Thus, my research focuses on exploring the structure-activity relationship towards dual Nurr1/RXR agonists by organic synthesis as well as in vitro evaluation of compounds.
